Abstract
Toxic shock syndrome is an acute febrile illness that may present in a variety of clinical settings; for example, fever, hypotension, diffuse erythroderma, and dysfunction of multiple systems:
Although most commonly reported in association with the use of absorbent tampons during menstruation, it has been reported with increasing frequency in postoperative patients.
In this report, we document a case of postoperative toxic shock syndrome in a orthopaedic patient and review the literature regarding diagnosis and treatment of this potentially lethal disease process.
